In this program, Lucy Long discusses her recent book, Sweet, Tart, and Golden: Apples in the Midwestern Imagination and how it is about much more than apples. It tells the story of how apples were brought to the eastern Midwest and became a significant part of the agricultural economy and food culture, but it also explores how apple dishes, Johnny Appleseed, orchards, cider, apple butter, and modern innovations like sliced apples illustrate the richness and complexities of the region. Meet the Local Poet Pella Felton

Pella Felton is a poet, independent scholar, and performance artist based out of Northwest Ohio. She holds a M.A. in Television, Radio and Film from Syracuse University, and a certificate in Performance Studies from Bowling Green State University. A proponent for performance as a site of community building, Pella has presented her performances and research at Pacific Ancient and Modern Language Association, Toledo Fringe Festival, Winter Wheat Literary Festival, and the 2023 Marvin Center TEDx Conference at Bowling Green State University. She will be reading from her poetry collection Fragile Nests. Books will be available for purchase.
